DTN COMMENTS: A light trade has developed in Kansas at sharply lower
money, $237 to $238, $10 to $11 lower than last week's weighted average.
So far, just a handful of heifers have moved in Texas at $238. It is
looking like the bulk of Northern business has essentially been completed
for the week. But a little light movement here and there is not out of
the question.
Yesterday another round of sharply lower trading took place in parts of
the North with dressed deals ranging from mostly $377 to $380, $12 to $15
lower than last week's weighted averages, basis Nebraska.
Beef cutouts are lower at midday (choice 369.34 -1.94, select 357.96 -
1.22) with light to moderate box movement (41.89 lds of choice cuts, 6.63
of select cuts, 5.74 lds of trim, and 3.80 ground). With a choice/select
spread of 11.38. Cattle futures are sharply lower near the top of the
noon hour.
For the period ending July 9, net beef sales of 8,000 MT for 2026 were
down 43 percent from the previous week and 45 percent from the prior 4-
week average. Increases were primarily for Japan (2,400 MT), Canada
(1,900 MT), Mexico (1,200 MT), Taiwan (1,100 MT), and Qatar (200 MT).
Exports of 10,400 MT were down 29 percent from the previous week and 25
percent from the prior 4-week average. The destinations were primarily to
South Korea (3,200 MT), Japan (2,900 MT), Mexico (1,400 MT), Taiwan (700
MT), and Hong Kong (600 MT).
